Optibus launches Control module to bus service management platform

Optibus has introduced a new Control module to its public transport service management platform. The addition is built for what the supplier says are depot managers, controllers, and others involved in the running of bus services.

It creates what Optibus adds is a real-time feedback loop. Control integrates seamlessly with the Operations, Planning, Rostering and Scheduling modules and gives “precision command over live service delivery and operations.”

That comes via the combination of real-time service visibility with smart decision-making tools that the supplier adds enables control teams to monitor and adapt bus services in the moment.

It is vendor-agnostic and can connect with in-vehicle systems to permit real-time driver guidance, messaging, passenger announcements on the vehicle and via other channels, and with CCTV.

Real-time monitoring gives live visibility of vehicle location, performance metrics and service status and provides tools to manage disruption. That includes the reassignment of crew duties and communication with drivers.

The new product also reduces compliance-related administration via what Optibus describes as “audit-grade mileage certification and automatic documentation and reporting on service delivery versus service plans.”

Scalability is key to the Control module, with the supplier noting how it can deploy basic compliance features on a small number of vehicles or run a full-scale control centre for a large fleet.

Customers will get regular product updates, easy installation, minimal maintenance and costs that Optibus claims are up to 75% lower than legacy systems.

Speaking about the development, Co-Founder and CEO Amos Haggiag says: “Control delivers on Optibus’ mission to build a fully uniformed platform for public transportation management.

“Through continuous feedback between planning and real-time operations, we are enabling operators to plan and deliver better transport networks – faster. It is a major step forward in transforming service delivery and the passenger experience.”
