The Scottish National Party (SNP) is to “develop a local franchising framework for Glasgow’s buses, to deliver a more integrated, comprehensive and connected network across the city.”
It also proposes Scotland’s first Low Emission Zone (LEZ) for the city and banning all diesel road vehicles from Glasgow by 2027.
It comes after the SNP ended Labour’s 30-year control of the city council at the local elections.
However, the SNP may face difficulties implementing its plan, as it is running a minority administration.
Although Scotland has the same Quality Contract powers as England and Wales used to have (the Bus Services Act 2017 is England and Wales only), the SNP Government has pledged new bus powers in its forthcoming Transport Bill.
