I read with great interest the article on Driver CPC (DCPC) training [routeone/Opinion/3 April].
I fully understand the frustration expressed in listening to largely irrelevant information.
I would, however, like to share with you DCPC training from a different approach.
City Circle UK moved into a purpose-built state-of-the-art premise over the last couple of years. Included in this was a facility where training could be delivered.
The company embraced the DCPC principle and brought it in-house. Two benefits include:
- Training can be delivered when it suits the needs of its business, as opposed to that of a training provider
- The courses can be designed to deliver information and training which directly benefits the company and its employees.
The company became an approved JAUPT training centre and five courses were approved which included drivers’ hours, company policies and procedures, health and safety and eco driving on road practical.
95% of the company’s drivers’ have completed their training and the overall response has been positive.
This may be in part due to the fact that the company covers the costs and the drivers actually get paid while training.
The company believes this investment will reap rewards for both employer and employees’ in the future.
