The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has appointed Josh Miles as its first full-time Director of CPT Cymru. He succeeds John Pockett, who retired from the position recently and who worked three days per week.

Mr Miles (pictured) will take up the position in early February 2021. He will be responsible for leading CPT’s work across Wales. That will include engagement with the Welsh Government to “help deliver CPT’s policy goals for the industry,” says the Confederation.

Mr Miles will join from the Federation of Small Businesses Wales, where he is Policy Manager. That role has responsibility for the Federation’s policy and research agenda. He has previous experience of high-level engagement with the Welsh Government. Mr Miles has also previously worked for an MP representing a Welsh constituency.

Says CPT Chief Executive Graham Vidler adds: “I am very much looking forward to welcoming Josh Miles to CPT. He has extensive experience of political engagement and he joins us from another well-respected trade association. I know Josh will be keen to meet and understand members’ priorities as soon as he is in post.”

Adds Mr Miles: “I am delighted to be joining CPT during what is a challenging time for the coach and bus industry.

“Alongside the pandemic, there are many issues, including congestion, air quality and how we provide transport networks in the future that are all rising up the political agenda. I very much look forward to ensuring that CPT members’ views and interests are represented right at the heart of Welsh Government.”

Mr Pockett held the role of CPT Cymru Director since the post was created in 2000.
