Go South West has shown its support for Ukraine with the unveiling of a specially-liveried ‘peace bus’. In addition to raising awareness, it will also be used to help raise money for those who have been affected by the war there.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 will be used on Go Cornwall Bus and Plymouth Citybus services. It will have a donation point inside for people who wish to give money to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine humanitarian appeal.

As part of the fundraising work, drivers and other staff will wear blue and yellow from Monday 28 March until Friday 8 April in exchange for a donation. All funds raised by employees will be matched by Go South West’s parent, Go-Ahead Group. Go Cornwall Bus and Plymouth Citybus are also participants in the scheme to provide free bus travel for refugees arriving in the area from Ukraine.

Says Go South West Managing Director Richard Stevens (pictured): “Like many people, we feel saddened and pretty helpless by the Ukraine war. We hope our peace bus is going to be a strong visual demonstration of our support wherever it travels across Plymouth and Cornwall.

“The events in Ukraine have shocked us all, and we know that lots of people will be affected in different ways. Many of our team felt that they wanted to do something positive to help. By doing this, we can encourage our colleagues, passengers and all people in our community to contribute.”

The Go South West ‘peace’ bus is a further Enviro400 decorated in support of Ukraine. It follows one so treated by Newport Bus, which was unveiled earlier in March.
