Reading Buses driver Mohamed Kamara has thanked his mother-in-law for pointing him to a career with Reading Buses – and is preparing for another decade in the job.

The 56-year-old driver is celebrating 20 years with Reading Buses, paying tribute to Louise Mundy, a former inspector at the same operator, who encouraged him to take up driving as a career.

Mohamed moved to driver training with Reading Buses after first starting on lorries with Royal Mail. He passed his test and started driving both urban and rural routes.

One of the perks that stands out is the thanks expressed by passengers.

“Everyone says ‘thank you driver’ which I enjoy very much,” says Mohamed. “At first, I found the amount of thanks so unusual, and I now really like it.”

Mohamed recommends the job to anyone thinking about a career change. “I have recommended two people for bus driving,” he adds. “I am happy working and now looking forward to completing another 10 years of service.”

Caroline Anscombe, HR Director at Reading Buses comments: “It’s always lovely to recognise long service among our staff members and I share Mohamed’s anticipation that he’ll see out at least another 10 years.

“Seeing family members follow in each other’s footsteps and knowing that Mohamed has also recommended the career to others that he knows is heartening and shows how valued our driving staff really are.”
