The next Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) National Final will be held in Blackpool on Sunday 18 September 2022, the organisers have confirmed. It will be based at the Imperial Hotel.
In a letter published in the October issue of routeone, BDOY Chair Joe Mackie says that the return of the competition after two years away owing to the COVID-19 pandemic is “good news” and that work to arrange and stage the 54th competition in 2022 is “well on target.”
While making the announcement, Mr Mackie notes that the bus industry and its staff have seen a challenging period since March 2020. The BDoY Council “are conscious of the challenges ahead for the industry and are hopeful that the reintroduction of the BDoY competition will do something to lift the spirits of all involved,” he adds.
Competition Secretary Paul MacKay will write to all those who have expressed an interest in the 2022 BDoY contest early next year, outlining details, the entry fee, the entry form and other items. Before then, the BDoY Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at 1830hrs on 21 October, to which an invite to all interested parties has been extended. “We, the Council members, look forward to old and new supporters joining us in Blackpool over the weekend of 17 and 18 September 2022 for the 54th National BDoY competition,” adds Mr Mackie. “Bus operators that have any queries are invited to get in touch with me or any Council member, whose contact details are on our website.”
