Chapman;s tie-up with safety product manufacturers is complementary

It was Chapman Driver Seating’s association with two non-seat suppliers that provided the focus for visitors’ attention on its EBE stand.

Offered by Chapman as integrated options in its standard seats are Brakesafe from Vision Techniques and Guardian by Seeing Machines of Australia. Both installations are in response to the drive to reduce accidents on London’s buses, but can be specified for use on any vehicle.

There is strong demand for Brakesafe in refuse vehicles because it prevents runaways by applying the vehicle handbrake if the driver attempts to leave the cab. Multiple sensors recognise the potential danger and the system activates even if the vehicle’s ignition is off.

Guardian, meanwhile, is a real-time driver fatigue and distraction solution.

By monitoring the driver’s eyes, Guardian can detect potential problems and causes the driver’s seat to vibrate. In addition, any such interventions are monitored and reports automatically generated for the operator’s benefit.
