Alexander Dennis has delivered the first of four next-generation Enviro500EV battery-electric tri-axle double-deckers to customer CLP Power Hong Kong.

The operator uses a small fleet of buses to transport employees commuting to and from power stations. The Enviro500EV batch will replace existing Euro IV diesel Enviro500 double-deckers and make CLP Power the third Hong Kong operator to take delivery of the tri-axle battery-electric after KMB and MTR Corporation.

The four buses are finished in white and decorated with green leaves and Pure Electric, Zero Emission logo. LED lighting is used and all seats come with seatbelt fastening detectors.

Each Enviro500EV has 472kWh of energy storage, with drive taken through the heavy-duty variant of the Voith Electrical Drive System. That suits the usage patterns and terrain of Hong Kong. Battery positioning is configured to avoid intrusion into the passenger area, maximising carrying capacity and ensuring a conventional saloon layout.

Speaking about the CLP deal, Alexander Dennis Head of Commercial Finance (Asia Pacific) Michael Pothan says: “This latest delivery of Alexander Dennis Enviro500EV confirms our next-generation double-decker as a favourite for Hong Kong’s operating conditions and introduces it to the private bus sector for the first time.

“CLP Power will benefit from its uncompromising design which is driving value through its focus on efficiency and longevity, while staff will enjoy smooth journeys to and from work.”
