Support will help add more vehicles to Dial-A-Ride service as well as fund one mechanic position for garage subsidiary

Halton Community Transport (HCT), one of the Liverpool City Region’s flagship Community Transport providers, and its subsidiary garage service, The Extra Mile Transport Company, have won a grant of £262k from the independent trust Power to Change.

The grant, part of the trust’s Community Business Fund, will allow the organisation to introduce four new fully-accessible Dial-A-Ride vehicles to their fleet.

It will also see expansion of its Extra Mile garage and allow it to offer a wider range of garage services to the local community.

The £262k Power to Change grant will allow HCT to spend £316k for the benefit of Halton and the wider Liverpool City Region. The new vehicles will lead to an expansion of its Dial-A-Ride services and introduce new volunteering opportunities for community minibus drivers,

The investment in the Extra Mile garage will result in one new full-time mechanic/MoT tester.

Mark Arnold, HCT CEO says: “This grant will enable HCT to become more robust and sustainable.

“HCT is a strong and resilient community transport charity with almost 30 years of operation serving the Borough of Halton and now the Liverpool City Region, and we plan to be around for at least another 30 years.’

The Community Business Fund offers grants between £50,000-£300,000 to existing community businesses based in England. Grants are designed to help community businesses to grow and become more financially sustainable.
