Tech provider Passenger has released a new mobile app with Scottish operator Xplore Dundee, following its acquisition by McGill’s buses from National Express.
Features of the new app include mobile ticketing, journey planning, disruption notifications, live tracking, and real-time occupancy data to assist with social distancing restrictions.
It also includes a contact-free verification service for Xplore Dundee’s age-restricted Child, Young Scot and Student tickets to educational institutions such as the University of Dundee.
“We’re delighted to be starting 2021 by launching a brand-new app,” says Xplore Dundee Managing Director Christine McGlasson. “Our customers need up-to-date information and the right tools to confidently plan their travel during these challenging times. Passenger has worked quickly to deliver an app that we all hope will help keep our users choosing to travel by bus whenever they can.”
Adds Head of Customer Services at Passenger Helen Connolly: “It’s been lovely to work with the National Express, Xplore Dundee and McGill’s teams on this project. We were able to satisfy National Express’s complex requirements before a smooth handover to McGill’s, which we have worked with for a number of years.
“We are all very excited to be launching an app to help Xplore Dundee’s customers plan and pay for their journeys safely and securely.”
Xplore Dundee parent McGill’s Buses has worked with Passenger since 2018 and already uses its own app. Users of the existing Xplore Dundee app will see a migration of active tickets to the Passenger Cloud service.
