The RMT union has written to bus operators calling for a number of practices to be invoked during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic – including a move towards accepting only cashless payments.
Additionally, the union is demanding enhanced cleaning and sanitisation regimes for buildings, facilities and vehicles and for the installation of anti-assault screens to buses that remain in use that do not have them already.
Says RMT union General Secretary Mick Cash: “Buses are an essential service being run by front-line workers. It is crucial that the health risks to both them and passenger are kept to a minimum.
“That is why RMT is calling for cashless travel, enhanced cleaning and washing facilities and for screens to be fitted to all buses.”
