Stagecoach has unified its East Scotland and West Scotland operating companies into a single undertaking, Stagecoach South Scotland. It will be led by Fiona Doherty as Managing Director, who previously held the same position with Stagecoach West Scotland.
Change to the structure of Stagecoach operations in the more southern parts of Scotland “strengthens service delivery and collaboration across communities,” the group says. The alignment will focus on delivery of better services and value for customers and the areas it serves, the group adds.
Brought together are the former West Scotland operations across Ayrshire and Lanarkshire and including Glasgow, and East Scotland undertakings in Angus, Dundee, Fife, Perth and Kinross, and Tayside.
“The move reflects Stagecoach’s ongoing commitment to modernising its business and enabling a more connected and resilient bus network across Scotland,” the group continues.
Stagecoach South Scotland aligns with operations elsewhere in the country, where the established Stagecoach North Scotland undertaking delivers services in Aberdeenshire, the Highlands, and Orkney. It will result in “consistent regional identity and clarity for passengers, partners and stakeholders,” Stagecoach says.
Adds Ms Doherty: “This is the start of an exciting chapter for Stagecoach in Scotland – bringing together two really strong operating companies and forming a phenomenal new united operating company. We will blend together all the best from both East and West, share ideas, and grow together as a united team.”
The newly formed operating company runs in the region of 700 vehicles, of which around 170 are battery-electric buses. Approximately 140 coaches are also present in the combined fleet.
