Papercast e-paper is a low-power, high-visibility bus stop display solution

E-paper passenger information system supplier Papercast has unveiled enhancements to its range of solar-powered displays, including a complete display refresh rate of 7.5 frame per second.

Engineers have also been able to quickly render content in high-resolution grayscale without any ‘ghosting’ issues.

Says Chief Engineer James Sirmon: “Our displays update every few seconds, or as required, with static content. That is perfectly adequate for most of our customers, but we believe the opportunity for e-paper is enormous if we can move beyond existing limitations.”

Other recent enhancements include:

  • Ultra-low draw battery operation where solar power is unavailable
  • Text-to-speech support using a push button
  • New enclosure design with improved IP rating
  • Extended options for display mounting
  • Diagnostic charts in the management system
  • Telemetry views showing live and historical display content
  • Content translation functionality.

Papercast displays were launched in 2016 to “transform the way bus operators provide passenger information at stops,” says the company. They are entirely suitable for outside use and have excellent screen visibility, even in direct sunlight.

They are connected wirelessly and can be continuously solar powered with a very low energy consumption.
