BASE to supply 74-seat examples mounted on Swedish chassis, with first on display at Euro Bus Expo

Scania-based option for the Explorer will complement MAN RR8 chassis

The low-height, high-capacity MOBIpeople Explorer is to be built on Scania chassis for the UK market, supplier BASE Coach Sales has confirmed.

When mounted on the K 320 underframe, the Explorer will come only with 74 seats in a 3+2 layout. The first example is currently in build and it will be displayed at Euro Bus Expo, held at the NEC Birmingham from 30 October-1 November.

“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to expand the Explorer range onto Scania chassis,” says BASE General Manager Nick Dodgson.

“BASE has sold over 100 MOBIpeople coaches since the product was launched in late 2014 and we see this as a step forward in establishing the MOBIpeople range in a broader sector of the UK market.”

Thus far, all Explorers for the UK have been built on MAN RR8 chassis (pictured). Addition of the Scania-mounted product has no impact on the supply of MAN-based Explorers.

Adds Martin West, Scania Great Britain Sales Director, New Bus and Coach: “After working with the Aspinall family at BASE for many years and enjoying a great relationship, we look forward to continuing that partnership to enhance its range and presence in this market sector.

“We are sure that the Scania MOBIpeople Explorer will prove to be an excellent combination for operators throughout the UK.”
