Calculate how much can be saved by minibuses

Mellor has introduced a web-based calculating tool that provides total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis for buyers of its Mercedes-Benz Sprinter-based Strata low-floor minibus.

It compares the TCO of a Strata with that of larger single-deck buses. The operator inputs its annual mileage and fuel cost per litre, along with a fleet size over which the comparison will be made.

The calculator then provides a saving that can be achieved with a Strata, both over a full life and on a yearly basis.

Purchase, maintenance and servicing costs and BSOG rebates are all included in the calculation, which also assumes that fuel costs will rise at a rate of 2.5% per year.

In a comparison performed by miniplus, the tool shows that a fleet of 10 Stratas each covering 52,000km per year, and with fuel priced at £1.02 per litre excluding VAT, will generate an annual saving of £164,724 based on a 12-year life cycle.

Says Mellor MD John Randerson: “This is a simple to use but highly effective tool for bus operators that are unsure about, or wouldn’t usually consider running, a Strata in their fleet.

“The bus has much to offer in terms of passenger comfort, safety and flexibility. Now, operators can see for themselves the kind of savings they can expect – and the figures are quite astounding.”
