McGill’s man wins FlixBus inaugural Driver of the Year award

Glenn Taylor (pictured) of McGill’s has been named the winner of FlixBus’s inaugural Driver of the Year award for 2022.

Glenn, from Dundee, has driven for McGill’s since 2022, operating a daily Glasgow to Aberdeen route.

He received the award for achieving the highest star rating of any driver on the entire FlixBus UK network. The star rating is described by the company as the average of a cumulative survey score given by FlixBus customers for each journey in 2022.

The award was presented by Colin Napier, McGill’s Group Service Delivery Director, at the operator’s Dundee training academy, where Alan was presented with a remote-controlled FlixBus.

“We truly value our drivers, as the heart of FlixBus and the face of our brand,” says FlixBus UK Senior Operations Manager James Barlow. “This award represents our gratitude to Glenn for being an outstanding driver.

“We’re thrilled to present the first FlixBus Driver of the Year award, a really special honour because it’s based entirely on customer feedback. It’s the first award of many as we build the largest coach network in the country.”

“I was asked to come in to work early with no idea as to why! When I found out, I was made up. I would like to thank FlixBus for the award – it’s a real honour to win this,” says Glenn.

The award comes amid the recent announcement surrounding the addition of 18 coaches to the FlixBus and McGill’s Scottish scheduled coach network, bringing the total to 25, and a subsequent recruitment drive.

Comments Colin: “We’ve just launched a driver training plan which supports coach drivers to obtain a recognised qualification, as well as our three in-house driver training academies.

“We hope to hear from individuals who believe they have what it takes to match the calibre we expect. Glenn has raised the bar high.”

When asked what he thinks makes a great driver, Glenn says: “Safety is always first priority, but passenger experience is a very close second.

“For me, the passengers are everything. I’ve always worked with the public and I believe you should treat everyone how you would want to be treated as a customer.”
